Abraham Lincoln

THE PARTY OF LINCOLN

Abraham Lincoln

16th  President

In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as the first Republican President of the

United States.  Since then many more Republicans have taken the oath of office

upholding the principles that Lincoln espoused; smaller government, individual

responsibility, and freedom for all.  Abraham Lincoln established one of the

principles upon which the Republican party was founded when he said:

“Let us have faith that right makes might; and in that faith

let us dare to do our duty as we understand it.”
